In-Person Game Setup
Camera, lighting, and basic audio for in-person tables that stream or include remote players.
1
Camera
- Overhead (above the table): Shows the map, miniatures, and movement. Use a tripod with an extended arm or a phone mount fixed above the table.
- Front-facing (toward the DM): Shows your expressions and reactions. Your laptop camera or a phone on a tripod works fine.
2
Lighting
- Use diffused light from the sides or slightly above — never directly on the map (causes glare).
- Adjustable desk lamps or cheap LED lights are sufficient.
- Avoid having a bright window behind you (turns you into a silhouette on camera).
3
Audio
- A desktop microphone in the center captures the whole group.
- If you're only transmitting your voice, headphones with a mic are enough.
- Test audio before players arrive.
4
Organized table
- Map in the center, dice and miniatures in defined areas.
- Avoid tall objects that block the overhead camera's view.
- Keep your DM notes out of the camera frame.
